The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Harold Weinberg (ASN: 32601341), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 610th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 8 January 1945 in Luxembourg. During an attack near Dahl, Luxembourg, the tank destroyer in which Sergeant Weinberg served as gun commander was disabled by enemy fire, and the crew sought cover in a ditch. Upon observing an enemy tank withdrawing, Sergeant Weinberg immediately left his position of safety and, with utter disregard for his life, manned the gun on the disabled destroyer to score a direct hit upon the German tank. The courage, initiative, and aggressive devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Weinberg were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
