The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Cecil A. White (ASN: 42091553), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company L, 3d Battalion, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 18 January 1945 in Luxembourg. After Technical Sergeant White had assumed command of his squad at Nocher, Luxembourg, their advance was temporarily delayed by severe enemy fire from well prepared hostile positions. After placing his men in position, he exposed himself to the enemy barrage, charged over hazardous terrain, and, despite the hail of fire directed at him, delivered effective fire on the enemy and forced them to withdraw. Technical Sergeant White’s courage and devotion were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
