The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant [then Private First Class] Harold G. Fulmer (ASN: 33937258), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 23 December 1944 in Luxembourg. At Mersig, Luxembourg, severe enemy fire inflicted many casualties on Staff Sergeant Fulmer’s company. On his own initiative, Staff Sergeant Fulmer captured the enemy commanding officer, and forced the prisoner to accompany him down the street, through a hail of fire, and order the hostile troops to surrender. Staff Sergeant Fulmer’s courage and initiative saved his company from further casualties and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
