The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant John J. Dolan (ASN: 32441736), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 14 February 1945 in Germany. Near Wallendorf, Germany, Sergeant Dolan was painfully wounded by hostile fire from an enemy pillbox. With disregard for personal safety, he obtained a satchel charge, exposed himself to the enemy and, after boldly advancing through the severe fire, destroyed the position, allowing his company to advance. Sergeant Dolan’s courage, aggressiveness and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
