The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Luis W. Yochum (ASN: 33304962), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Battery A, 315th Field Artillery Battalion, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 14 March 1945 in Germany. Within range of enemy small arms fire at Ober Zerf, Germany, Technician Fifth Grade Yochum advanced over hazardous and exposed terrain to aid four wounded comrades. With disregard for personal safety he administered aid despite the increasing intensity of heavy artillery and small arms fire to successfully evacuate them. The gallantry and sincere devotion to duty displayed by Technician Fifth Grade Yochum were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
