The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers), [then Second Lieutenant] Frank T. Lembo (ASN: 0-2010358), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 305th Engineer Battalion, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 19 October 1944 in France. While deep in hostile territory, Lieutenant Lembo’s patrol was subjected to severe enemy fire and forced to withdraw. Alone, he voluntarily remained in exposed and hazardous territory to hold the hostile forces while his men moved to a position of safety. Lieutenant Lembo’s gallantry and devotion to duty saved his comrades from possible injury or capture and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
