The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant [then Staff Sergeant] Archie R. Clark (ASN: 35359157), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 12 November 1944 in France. Serving as company commander in an attack near Lucy, France, Technical Sergeant Clark’s battle-weary company encountered severe hostile mortar, machine gun, and small arms fire. Advancing to the head of the company, he exposed himself to inspire his men to resume the attack, destroy the enemy, and take their objective. Technical Sergeant Clark’s leadership, gallantry, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
