The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Chester E. Amos (ASN: 35618554), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 28 November 1944 in France. Near Farbersviller, France, Corporal Amos boldly remained in his point vehicle to fire on and destroy an enemy gun position before seeking cover from the hostile fire. As a friendly car came into position to destroy remaining hostile weapons, he exposed himself, drew intense fire, and permitted his comrades to observe and destroy the enemy. Corporal Amos’ sincere devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
