The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Charles E. Singer (ASN: 33613428), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 15 January 1945 in Luxembourg. When his platoon was ordered to withdraw under an intense enemy counterattack, Private First Class Singer courageously remained at his machine gun delaying the enemy advance and enabled his comrades to reorganize and retake its objective.
