The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Hugh F. Queenin (ASN: 0-369463), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 8 November 1944 in France. When severe enemy fire held up the infantry’s Seille River crossing at Nomeny, France, Lieutenant Queenin, machine gun platoon leader, with a comrade, voluntarily advanced 600 yards with such tactical skill and stealth that the crews of four enemy machine guns were captured intact without firing a shot, resulting in the successful completion of their mission. Lieutenant Queenin’s outstanding leadership, courage, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
