The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant [then Corporal] Eric R. Weinmann (ASN: 32406327), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Anti-Tank Company, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 3 April 1945 in Germany. At Brasselsburg, Germany, Staff Sergeant Weinmann exposed himself to the enemy to cross open terrain and infiltrate into the town. There, he forced three prisoners to give information and draw overlays of the enemy defenses. After returning over the same hazardous route, he led an attack on the hostile force’s rear which killed 20 and took 200 prisoners. Staff Sergeant Weinmann’s gallantry and initiative were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
