The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Rudolph Tomasik (ASN: 31345214), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 13 April 1945 in Germany. In the vicinity of Weimer, Germany, when severe enemy fire inflicted casualties on his platoon and temporarily disorganized the men, Private First Class Tomasik refused to seek cover. With disregard for personal safety, and in view of the hostile forces, he returned the enemy fire so effectively that his comrades were able to reorganize, deploy, and win a decisive victory. Private First Class Tomasik’s gallantry and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
