The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Neal H. Rowland (ASN: 36765335), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 3 April 1945 in Germany. At Brasselburg, Germany, Private First Class Rowland, with a companion, exposed himself to the enemy to cross open terrain and infiltrate into the town. There, he forced three prisoners to give information and draw overlays of the enemy defenses. He then dispatched his comrade to return and lead an attack on the enemy rear while he guarded the prisoners. Private First Class Rowland’s gallantry and initiative aided the battalion greatly and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
