The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant [then Technical Sergeant] James H. McCurry (ASN: 34311564), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Anti-Tank Company, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 24 February 1945 in Germany. Near Koperich, Germany, First Sergeant McCurry probed enemy lines, and on the third attempt successfully infiltrated his platoon to a pre-arranged strategic position. From the commanding terrain he radioed information paramount to a future attack. When the hostile forces retreated toward his position, he exercised excellent fire control and inflicted great casualties on the enemy ranks. First Sergeant McCurry’s leadership and judgment were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
