The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant David A. Farrar (ASN: 33225657), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 1 November 1944 in France. After attacking through severe enemy fire with infantrymen near Letricourt, France, Sergeant Farrar began a reconnaissance of the Seille River. Before reaching the river he fearlessly attacked an enemy patrol and killed or wounded several. He then advanced to the river and under hostile fire secured the necessary information. Sergeant Farrar’s superb leadership, fearlessness, and sincere devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
