The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Edward E. Blewett (ASN: 6927435), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 5 May 1945 in Austria. At Ranshofen, Austria, Staff Sergeant Blewett defied an enemy order to surrender and boldly advanced on a position until the defenders surrendered. After interrogating these prisoners he crossed open terrain to another position and despite hostile weapons trained on his movements persuaded thirty-seven more enemy to give up with all of their equipment. Staff Sergeant Blewett’s disregard for personal safety eliminated a serious threat and was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
