The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class James A. Braund (ASN: 33936904), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 19 January 1945 in Luxembourg. Near Nocher, Luxembourg, when the weapons platoon and part of the company headquarters were ambushed by an enemy pocket, Private First Class Braund, a wireman, covered his comrades until they could take positions. With disregard for personal safety he exposed himself to severe hostile fire to hold off the enemy force. His initiative, courage, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
