The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant [then Sergeant] Charles J. Krasienko (ASN: 35312138), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 11 April 1945 in Germany. In the vicinity of Jena, Germany, when a convoy was ambushed by a force of fanatical enemy and the platoon leader killed, Technical Sergeant Krasienko, voluntarily and with utter disregard for safety, led a patrol through the severe hostile fire to force the enemy to surrender. His courage, outstanding leadership, and devotion to duty eliminated a serious threat and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
