The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Donald B. Hull (ASN: 35618577), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 7 February 1945 in Germany. At the Our River, during the first assault on the Siegfried Line, in was imperative that a well placed enemy pillbox be destroyed. Staff Sergeant Hull, voluntarily and with utter disregard for safety, crawled through severe hostile fire to the fort, threw a phosphorus grenade through an aperture, and forced the enemy from their position. His aggressiveness, courage, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
