The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Thomas Cosgrove, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 15 May 1864, while serving with Company F, 40th Massachusetts Infantry, in action at Drewry’s Bluff, Virginia. Private Cosgrove individually demanded and received the surrender of seven armed Confederates concealed in a cellar, disarming and marching them in as prisoners of war.
