The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant [then Staff Sergeant] Robert E. Dyke (ASN: 31403333), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 6, 7, and 8 January 1945 in Luxembourg. During the attacks on the almost fanatically defended towns of Dahl and Nocher, Luxembourg, Technical Sergeant Dyke, although wounded in both legs in the first attack, led his men over hazardous terrain and through all types of severe hostile fire for three days to take and consolidate every objective. The tactical ability, outstanding leadership, and sincere devotion to duty displayed by Technical Sergeant Dyke were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
