The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Jack A. Marshall (ASN: 0-451717), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 317th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 26 January 1945 in Luxembourg. Captain Marshall fearlessly occupied an observation post despite a severe concentration of enemy mortar and artillery fire. He gathered valuable information even though the enemy counterattacked twice, and then planned and gallantly led a night attack to successfully attain the battalion objective, Buckholz, Luxembourg. Captain Marshall’s bravery and sincere devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
