The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Francis A. Tronolone (ASN: 42110495), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 8 January 1945 in Luxembourg. At Dahl, Luxembourg, an estimated enemy company attacked Private First Class Tronolone’s outpost. After an hour battle he withdrew to a nearby house. Here a violent room to room, hand-to-hand encounter ensued. Although wounded, Private First Class Tronolone, with fearless determination, fought on until twenty-five enemy soldiers surrendered. Such courage and aggressiveness were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
