The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry), [then Major] Arthur H. Clark (ASN: 0-347424), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States from 7 to 12 February 1945 in Luxembourg and Germany. During the attacks by his battalion on the strongly fortified Siegfried line, Lieutenant Colonel Clark was conspicuous in his efforts to assure a well coordinated attack. By his presence with foremost elements under enemy fire he inspired his men to destroy and drive the enemy from their positions. Lieutenant Colonel Clark’s leadership and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States.
