The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) Walter T. Snoddy, Jr. (ASN: 0-470200), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Officer with the 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 11 April 1945 in Germany. At Ober Grunstedt, Germany, after a motor column was surprised by severe enemy fire and several men were wounded, Captain Snoddy exhibited outstanding bravery and disregard for personal safety as he gave relief to the wounded. One man in a truck was bleeding profusely. Captain Snoddy mounted the truck and while under enemy observation administered aid which saved the soldier’s life. Such courage and efficiency were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
