The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) George Pfeiffer (ASN: 0-1053300), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 15 March 1945 in Germany. During the advance on Britten, Germany, an enemy strongpoint in a heavily wooded area was encountered. Lieutenant Pfeiffer, leading his platoon in the initial assault, was wounded in the foot, but,, although walking was painful, continued in the attack until the woods were cleared. Such courage and aggressiveness were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
