The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Frank DeFlippis (ASN: 32688050), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 610th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 8 January 1945 in Luxembourg. After moving into position to oppose an enemy tank attack near Dahl, Luxembourg, on 8 January 1945, the tank destroyer in which Corporal DeFlippis served as a cannoneer destroyed three enemy tanks, but was disabled by a direct hit and the crew forced to abandon it. Observing an enemy tank withdrawing, Corporal DeFlippis and a companion, utterly disregarding their own personal safety, ran at them. Firing on the enemy tank they scored a direct hit, igniting and destroying it. The courage, initiative, and aggressive devotion to duty displayed by Corporal DeFlippis were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
