The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Elmer R. Seibert (ASN: 35378592), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company M, 3d Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 8 January 1945 in Luxembourg. On that date, a strong enemy counterattack at Dahl, Luxembourg, temporarily overran one of the machine guns of the section of which Staff Sergeant Seibert was section sergeant. Undaunted by the temporary loss, Staff Sergeant Seibert courageously moved about under intense enemy mortar, artillery, and small arms fire to organize his section in defense of the remaining guns, which he utilized to repel the enemy attack. Staff Sergeant Seibert’s courage, aggressive leadership, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
