The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Henry A. Moser (ASN: 37132465), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 610th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 24 December 1944 in Luxembourg. On that date, while defending Heiderscheid, Luxembourg, Staff Sergeant Moser took command of his tank destroyer platoon when his platoon leader was temporarily absent during an enemy counterattack. Having reconnoitered for firing positions under intense enemy fire he emplaced his guns and personally established an observation post to control his guns. While directing fire he was attacked by two enemy infantrymen whom he killed after a sharp fire fight. Through his able direction the platoon destroyed six enemy tanks and immeasurably aided in repelling the enemy attack. Staff Sergeant Moser’s skill, initiative, and courageous leadership were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
