Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 129 (May 18, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant [then Private] Robert E. McQueen (ASN: 42125644), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 23 December 1944 in Luxembourg. Immediately after Heiderscheid, Luxembourg had been liberated on 23 December 1944, a numerically superior enemy force counterattacked and drove well into the town. Despite severe direct fire, Technical Sergeant McQueen, a rifleman, took a position in a house from which he destroyed a tank by rocket fire. He also disabled another enemy tank. His aggressiveness, courage, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
