Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 116 (May 1, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant [then Staff Sergeant] Harry A. Cool, Jr. (ASN: 19119916), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 26 September 1944 in France. On that date, Technical Sergeant Cool, a light machine gun squad leader, was wounded in the initial assault on the town of Moivren, France. Realizing that his unit was opposing numerically superior enemy forces, Technical Sergeant Cool continued to lead his men until they reached the outskirts of Moivren where he received medical aid. His courage, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
