The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Raymond H. Weiershauser (ASN: 0-1317453), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 11 and 12 February 1945 in Germany. On that date, near Biesdorf, Germany, Lieutenant Weiershauser was leading his platoon in an assault through a strongly defended enemy woods. Forced by the loss of key personnel to reorganize his own and an adjacent platoon, he led them on throughout the day. On the following day, 12 February 1945, he again led a headlong assault through thick woods to relieve a surrounded company. Lieutenant Weiershauser’s courage, aggressiveness, and skill enabled him to achieve the mission assigned and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
