The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant Thomas M. Pullin (ASN: 35385832), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 12 February 1945 in Germany. During the preparation for an attack near Biesdorf, Germany, on 12 February 1945, First Sergeant Pullin, serving as an artillery forward observer, advanced over exposed terrain to a position from which he calculated data for the initial artillery barrage. In spite of the continuous fire directed at him he remained in position until his mission was completed. Just prior to the infantry assault he again advanced to adjust fire and, although his radio was destroyed by enemy shelling, he relayed his adjustments through a rifle company radio net. He continued his operations in this exposed position until he was seriously wounded. His courage, initiative, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
