The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Jeff Calcote (ASN: 34018594), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 21 February 1945 in Germany. During an attack on enemy pillboxes in Germany on 21 February 1945, Technician Fourth Grade Calcote and his crew moved their destroyer over high ground undergoing intense small arms, tank, and anti-tank fire and through skillful maneuvering drove the destroyer onto an enemy pillbox. With utter disregard for his own safety he fired on the pillbox and from the advantageous position destroyed other enemy pillboxes in the immediate vicinity. Technician Fourth Grade Calcote’s courage, aggressiveness, and zealous devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
