Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 105 (April 17, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Henry Barcone (ASN: 42137616), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 21 February 1945 in Germany. On that date, the rifle company with which Private First Class Barcone was serving as a rifleman in an attack near Hommerdingen, Germany, was temporarily delayed by severe fire from an enemy position approximately seventy-give yards distant. Realizing that many casualties would be inflicted upon his platoon if its fire continued, he charged the position firing as he ran, killing one, wounding another, and forcing two more to surrender. This courageous act by Private First Class Barcone allowed his company to advance and win its objective. His bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
