The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Reinhold G. Leske (ASN: 35313239), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 26 January 1945 in Luxembourg. During an attack toward Hesingen, Luxembourg, the Division Reconnaissance Troop was affording flank protection by road patrols. Private First Class Leske and five other members of the troop volunteered to contact adjoining units in Munshausen, Luxembourg, and shortly before dark, when only five hundred yards from the village, the patrol was fired upon by an enemy anti-tank gun. Private First Class Leske and his companions, on foot, flanked and captured the enemy gun and ammunition. Voluntarily continuing on into the village they captured thirty one of the enemy and by clearing the town eliminated a possible threat to the attacking Division. The courage, aggressiveness, and steadfast devotion to duty displayed by Private First Class Leske was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
