(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Specialist Aaron Glenn Daggerhart, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action on 11 April 2003 in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, in Iraq. On that date, Specialist Daggerhart’s Bradley Fighting Vehicle was hit by an armor piercing round, which penetrated the turret, wounding both his Bradley command and himself. Upon discovering that the turret shield door had been damaged in the attack, Specialist Daggerhart and his commander jumped out of the top of the turret. Disregarding his own wounds, Specialist Daggerhart went to the aid of his Bradley commander, treating his wounds and passed him on to the platoon medic. He then jumped back into his track and began scanning. When he realized the turret drive was not working, he scanned in manual mode until the platoon returned to the command post. Specialist Daggerhart’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 3d Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
