(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Daniel E. Hurd, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as Commanding Officer, Company A, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2d Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, during combat operations in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, in Iraq in 2003. Captain Hurd distinguished himself by his gallant leadership in helping Coalition Forces to establish a permanent presence in the Euphrates River Valley. He charging into a densely packed rural area loaded with pressure-sensitized IEDs so he could attend to a wounded soldier. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
