The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) David Scott Doyle, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Company Commander, 3d Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM from 31 March 2003 to 7 April 2003. Captain Doyle led his company superbly during several days of battle against a numerically superior force. Captain Doyle’s heroism under fire and superb leadership directly resulted in the success of the battle. Captain Doyle’s personal courage, tactical expertise and professional competence while under days of effective enemy direct and indirect fire contributed directly to saving the lives of countless Soldiers and the overall success of the mission. Through his distinctive accomplishments, Captain Doyle reflected great credit upon himself, a Task Force, and the United States Army.
