(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Sergeant First Class Roderick C. Anderson, United States Army, was awarded the Soldier’s Medal for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with Operational Detachment Alpha 365 (ODA-365), 2d Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group (Airborne) in Afghanistan on 12 June 2003. After the MC-130 gunship on which Sergeant First Class Anderson and his teammates were flying crashed, he valiantly ignored the dangers to his own safety to rescue two of his companions.
