The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Henry Reising (ASN: 0-1173753), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 19 January 1945 in Luxembourg. On that date, in the vicinity of Heiderscheid, Luxembourg, the battery area in which Lieutenant Reising was stationed was under a heavy enemy artillery barrage. With utter disregard for his own personal safety Lieutenant Reising voluntarily left his shelter to survey the newly formed craters to secure shelling reports to be used for counter battery fire to neutralize the enemy batteries. Later that day he again braved continuous artillery fire to secure additional shelling reports. The courage, resourcefulness, and sincere devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Reising were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
