The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Charles H. Jones (ASN: 14099820), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 21 January 1945 in Luxembourg. In the assault on Burscheid, Luxembourg, on 21 January 1945, the battalion forward elements were temporarily delayed by an enemy strongpoint which was invulnerable to rocket launcher fire. Realizing the situation, Private First Class Jones voluntarily attacked the position with a submachine gun. After working his way to the rear of a building, he killed two of the enemy, and, upon entering the building, wounded three more and captured the remaining two. The courage, aggressiveness, and constant devotion to duty displayed by Private First Class Jones were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
