Kuhn (ASN: 36629909), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 10 April 1945 in Germany. On that date, when his company was delayed in its attack on Schmira, Germany, by intense enemy machine gun fire, Sergeant Kuhn, an assistant rifle squad leader, single-handedly assaulted an enemy gun position. When within thirty yards of the enemy he was severely wounded by a supporting enemy gun, but disregarding his wounds he crawled forward, firing as he moved. When found later he was unconscious and lying within ten yards of the enemy emplacement which he had neutralized by killing the entire crew. Sergeant Kuhn’s courage, aggressiveness, and supreme devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.

Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 25 (January 25, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Arthur H. Kuhn (ASN: 36629909), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 26 December 1944 in Belgium. On that date, while taking part in an assault, Private First Class Kuhn was painfully wounded by shrapnel from an enemy artillery concentration. A well emplaced enemy machine gun was inflicting casualties on the platoon. Despite his injuries and intense machine gun and small arms fire he continued in the attack, carrying two seriously wounded comrades across open terrain to the safety of a defilade position. He then remained on the field of battle until the objective of the company was seized and secured by adequate defenses after which he allowed himself to be evacuated. The bravery, determination, and loyal devotion to duty displayed by Private First Class Kuhn were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
