Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 14 (January 14, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major (Field Artillery) Ovid E. Scott (ASN: 0-395444), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 4 January 1945 in Luxembourg. When the Battalion Command Post was being shelled by enemy 105-mm. howitzers, Major Scott, in company with another officer, voluntarily and with utter disregard for his own safety, proceeded to survey the craters formed for a shelling report in order that accurate data could be secured for counter battery fire. His courage, resourcefulness, and sincere devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
