The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Maynard N. Lindell (ASN: 39392263), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 11 November 1944 in France. Corporal Lindell, serving as a Field Wire Corporal, while out with his section laying communications wires, was wounded as a result of enemy artillery fire. Despite his wounds and with utter disregard for his personal safety, he advanced in the face of the enemy shelling to lead his men in successfully rescuing two trucks containing valuable equipment. The courage, leadership, and loyal devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Lindell were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
