Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 6 (January 6, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Augustin E. Kruger (ASN: 6693316), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 15 September 1944 in France. The rifle company in which Staff Sergeant Kruger served as Supply Sergeant had expended their supply of ammunition in a determined effort to retain an established bridgehead against the enemy. With full knowledge of the dangers involved in attempting to supply the company Staff Sergeant Kruger commandeered a tank to insure the ammunition getting through. Placing the ammunition on the back of the tank and riding outside the tank himself, he successfully completed the mission contributing greatly in repulsing the enemy. The courage, initiative, and loyal devotion to duty demonstrated by Staff Sergeant Kruger were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
