The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Stillie A. Boyd (ASN: 35722052), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 8 October 1944 in France. While serving as Squad Leader of an infantry assault platoon, Staff Sergeant Boyd exposed himself to extremely heavy enemy mortar fire to assist in aiding the casualties of his platoon. Despite the danger of enemy fire, Staff Sergeant Boyd voluntarily evacuated many seriously wounded comrades from the battlefield and thereby saved many lives. The consideration for the welfare of his men, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty demonstrated by Staff Sergeant Boyd were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
