The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Paul Ohmar (ASN: 0-516094), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 8 November 1944 in France. On that date, Captain Ohmar, leading a rifle company in a village assault, received a bullet wound in the leg from sniper fire in the initial phase of the attack. Despite the severity of the wound he continued to lead the company, in the face of heavy enemy mortar and machine gun fire, successfully completing the mission of seizing the town. The aggressiveness, leadership, and sincere devotion to duty displayed by Captain Ohmar were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
