The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Armond M. Spinosa (ASN: 0-1324743), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 8 October 1944 in France. While leading his platoon in an attack on the enemy, Lieutenant Spinosa was wounded and his platoon was temporarily stopped by enemy machine gun crossfire and sniper fire. Despite his wound Lieutenant Spinosa encouraged his men to move forward and continued to lead their advance in the face of intense enemy fire until the objective was taken. The outstanding courage, leadership, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Spinosa were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
