The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Field Artillery) Daniel Joseph Minahan, Jr. (ASN: 0-21799), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of the 314th Field Artillery Battalion, 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 12 – 13 September 1944 in France, while successfully ordering several fire missions upon the enemy and later in organizing and commanding his unit in repelling an enemy attack by destroying three enemy tanks and killing an un-estimated number of enemy troops. His personal bravery, superb leadership, and zealous devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
